Palm Red weevil

Palm Red weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) is the most important pest of many palm species, especially Date trees. It was first detected in 2005 in Mersin in Turkey. It is known that it is widespread in many Middle East, Asia, Africa and European countries in recent years and it causes economic damage.

Palm Red Beetle; is a reddish brown insect that is generally larger than 25 mm. It has a prominent projection on the nose. It has a prominent projection in the form of a hose on the nose. One female adult leaves 200-250 eggs into the place where the newly formed leaves meet with the body or into the wounds in the trunk and leaves. Larvae are removed from the eggs within 10 days. When the larvae come out from the egg, they feed on the surrounding tissues and continue their feeding by opening the tunnel into the palm.

The main damage is performed by larvae. Larvae feed the fibrous tissue inside the body of the plant and feed the tunnels. It spends its life in the plant during the whole larval period.

The insect that prefers the crown and body parts of young palm trees prefers the growth point of the tree in the old palms. As a result, the branches and leaves of the tree to dry and even cause death.

The development time of the larvae is 60 days on average and during this time they have 5 larval periods and become pupae. 15 days after the cups, the adults come out. Adult life varies between 2-4 months. Harmful at 25-27 ° C, 3 progeny per year.

  1. The adults leave their eggs hidden in places such as places where the trunk and the leaf stem meet. The eggs are opened in 10 days and the larvae are removed.)
  2. Larvalara 36 - 78 gün beslenerek 5 dönem geçirirler ve palmiye lifleri ile ördükleri kokon içerisinde Pupa olurlar. Average larvae life is 55 days. The entire larval period passes through the plant body.)
  3. SThe last period larvae become pupae in the coke and the time until mature is 15 days.
  4. The adults of the cups feed very little and do not cause harm to adults. The adult period is 2-4 months.

Fighting Against the Palm Red weevil

There are three methods to combat the Red Palm Bug.
  1. Root Application
  2. The root of the tree is dug by digging. The next day, 35 ml / tree Palmidor 200 SL is given to the irrigated area and the insecticide is absorbed into the tree trunk. The application should be repeated every 60 days.

  3. Body Application
  4. The body of the tree is drilled with 3-4 drills and the Palmidor 200 SL is introduced into the tree. Then, the insecticide holes are sealed with vaccine paste. It is an undesirable method since it is necessary to pierce a tree and give an insecticide every 60 days.

  5. Special Cannula Application
  6. The tree is placed on the special cannula, drilled with a 2-drill bit. The Palmidor 200 SL is injected into the trunk using special cannulas and the cannula lid is closed. After 60 days of treatment, only the cannula lid is opened and the Palmidor 200 SL is injected into the tree trunk. The most common method used in Europe and TRNC. It is preferred in trees with body lengths above 1 meter.

Pest Types

Rodents

Rodents are divided into three groups as drain mouse, roof mouse and house mouse. Such pests not only create a health threat to the public but also carry dangerous and harmful diseases, which can also cause significant damage to the buildings that they decide to invade.

Our rodent control program has very important steps:

  • A thorough inspection to identify the species, where they're nesting, and what factors are attracting them.
  • Creating effective sanitation so that rodents are denied both food and hiding places.
  • Eliminating all potential entry points.
  • Reducing thepopulation by applying poison, bait, and traps.
